Podcasting is here!!

Podcasting is now available at UC Riverside. Podcasting is an automated mechanism for delivering and acquiring digital media files over the internet. Course lectures and other course-related files can be made available as podcasts. Students can subscribe to podcasts and have course content downloaded as it becomes available. Faculty can also create and provide other course-related material and make it available as a podcast. UCR Podcasting will simply automate the distribution.

UC Riverside has developed an automated podcast system for general assignment classrooms. At the request of faculty, classroom computers can be programmed to capture lecture audio. Faculty need to simply wear the wireless lapel microphone and turn on the classroom computer. Courses in non-General Assignment Classrooms can be captured using a portable recorder. To control access, Podcast subscriptions for courses can be posted in iLearn.

These audio archives are meant to provide an enhanced learning experience to students. Academic lectures are recorded as digital multimedia files and distributed through podcast subscriptions. This setup allows students to review material outside of class on their computer or portable MP3 player (iPod). This archive is not meant to replace attending class lectures, but rather as a supplement to the lectures by providing an additional mechanism for reviewing course-related material.

Students can use common media players that allow for podcast subscription services; iTunes, Winamp, Juice. These media players will automatically download the "episodes" available as well as sync to portable players, such as iPods.
